Istanbul University Green Roof Research Project - IUGRP
Green roof research in Istanbul University has started in 2006. After five years of research, Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry Landscape Architecture Department Green Roof Research Station (IUGRRS) was constructed in Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry Campus in 2010 with the support of Istanbul University Scientific Research Projects Department. Construction of IUGRRS was started in July 2010 and completed in September 2010. IUGRRS is located at the North of Istanbul, Bahçeköy – Sariyer Region, in Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry Campus.
First phase of the study in Green Roof Research Station (IUGRRS) was started in 2010 and completed in 2012. Research funded by the Istanbul University Scientific Research Projects Department with a project number of 5181. Main objective of this research is to establish the very first green roof test site in Istanbul and to provide scientific knowledge about the performance of the green roofs in Istanbul climate.
During first phase of research, thermal properties and stormwater characteristics of a typical extensive green roof in Istanbul climate was analyzed. Research studies in IUGR focused on energy conservation, plant growth, drought tolerance, stormwater management, growing substrates and biodiversity.
Second phase of research focusing on effet of substrate depth and type on plant survival and growth.
